Born in France in 1607, Isaac Jogues joined the Jesuits at the age of 17 and felt called to become a missionary. He was sent to Canada to work with the Huron Indians. There, he learned their language and became their friend. One day, Fr. Jogues was captured by Iroquois warriors. After being tortured in gruesome ways, he finally escaped and went back to France.

He soon returned to Canada desiring to convert more Indians, and he became a martyr for the Faith. Some parts of this story may be a little scary for young readers; however, reading this story can encourage us to follow in the footsteps of St. Isaac Jogues, who showed great courage as he helped others to learn about God.
