In 1842, Dominic Savio was born near Turin, Italy. As a boy, Dominic devoted his life to Jesus and Mary. He wanted them to be his friends and he loved them so much that he would rather die than commit any sin that would displease them. In 1854, his parents sent him to a school run by a holy priest and future saint, Don Bosco.
Dominic encouraged his classmates to say the Rosary and to avoid sin. His love for Jesus was shown by his careful preparation before Holy Communion and by his prayers of thanksgiving afterwards. Reading this story can encourage us to follow in the footsteps of St. Dominic Savio, who chose to avoid sin and to grow in holiness so he could be with Jesus and Mary in heaven.
