The life of St. Louis IX of France is an example of an extraordinary king’s life. He spent his life helping his subjects – especially the poor and needy. Through his mother’s teachings and guidance he grew up to be a leader of his people from whom we can all learn. If all our leaders today would follow his example, our lives would be more pleasing to God.
He was to become the only canonized king of France and because of this many towns and cities have been named in his honor, including St. Louis, Missouri. He was canonized in 1297 by Pope Boniface VIII, and his feast day is observed on August 25. HE is the patron of France, the Third Order of St. Francis, French Monarchy, and hairdressers.
