Gerard Majella was born in 1726 in Moro, Italy. When he was a young boy his sister witnessed him playing with the Infant Jesus in a nearby chapel. After his father died, Gerard apprenticed himself to a tailor, and his master marveled at the youth’s great piety. Later, Gerard became a Redemptorist Brother, and humility and obedience became the foundation of his life.
Although he preferred to remain in the monastery, Gerard obediently went wherever his Superior sent him, and he performed many miracles while attending to his duties. Reading this story can encourage us to follow in the footsteps of Saint Gerard Majella, whose humility and obedience allowed God to use him as a channel of His grace.
