Bernard was born in 1090 near Dijon, France. His parents believed that God had special plans for him, and they gook great care to send Bernard to an excellent school. After completing his studies, Bernard resolved to live a life of holiness and felt called to become a Cistercian monk.
Bernard began to ask others to join him. He was so persuasive that mothers began to hide their children if he was nearby! When Bernard entered the Cistercian monastery, thirty men entered with him. Reading this story can encourage us to follow in the footsteps of St. Bernard of Clairvaux, who inspired others to seek holiness through solitude, poverty, prayer, and work.
